PostSubject: My doggie   My doggie EmptyFri Feb 22, 2008 11:14 am

My doggie is sick! Sad
She has masses and other ailments that need attention. I'm so worried about her. I think she has either cancer or DDD (dancing doberman disease). DDD sounds cute, but it horrible.

I'm afraid that in upcoming months I may have to put her down (for her own good) and that's tearing me up inside cause she's my ONLY BABY GIRL!!!!!! Gotta go ... nearing tears again!

Oh Scrappy, I'm so sorry! That is the absolute worst part of owning pets. They are part of your family. I hope she is ok.
What is DDD? I've never heard of it before.

DDD (dancing doberman disease). DDD

Dancing Doberman disease is a neuromuscular disease of Doberman Pinschers of either sex, 6 mo to 7 yr old. Initially, affected dogs intermittently flex the hip and stifle of one pelvic limb while standing. Within several months, most dogs alternately flex and extend both pelvic limbs in a dance-like fashion. They often prefer to sit rather than stand. The condition slowly progresses to mild paraparesis, decreased proprioception, and atrophy of the gastrocnemius muscles. The thoracic limbs are not affected. The etiology is unknown. Pathologic changes have been reported in pelvic limb muscles as well as peripheral nerves, and whether this is a primary muscle or nerve disease remains to be clarified. There is no treatment, and signs do not resolve. However, the disease usually does not result in severe disability and does not appear to be painful.

The above blue passage was taken from a vet's medical journal.

Althought DDD is not (according to what I understand) painful or fatal, it's not my main concern. My primary concerns is the large mass on her back, and the small one on her belly and the two small ones on her back! Yes .... that would mean she has FOUR masses. My secondary concern is the color of her stool .... blackish, which is an indication of blood in stool!

Dobie's typically live 8-10 years, she's 7 years and 5 months. I don't want to put her down AT ALL FOR SELFISH REASONS! Although I will do what is right for HER! I have to put her needs above my own right now.

Seeing how it is expensive to determine whether or not she does have cancer AND her age, I probably will not have the tests done. I will wait to see what happens to her and how she behaves to make a decision as to when this might happen. The large mass on her back appeared in less than 1 week! So with that in mind I feel certain it will be BEFORE summer, if not sooner.

I hate this too! It's killing me emotionally! I've been suspecting something was up with her and then the masses showed themselves. My dh hadn't noticed and I broke down this morning while petting her and told him. He seemed genuinely sad. I hope he is after all the mean things he has said to her and about her lately!

She's the baby girl I never had!Sad

One of her ailments she had was obviously sinus, cold related. That symptom has passed.

I also have started her on some 'pain management' meds since the vet I talked to said that her joints were swollen and she was dancing from foot to foot to find a comfortable stance. Since I have started her on these meds .... her personality has come back, BUT she still has the dark black stools and the body masses Sad
